They share with me that “I don’t want them doing what we’re doing”.
They think that it’s the tactical things and the shiny objects that will make their competition better. It’s the technology, training, consulting, products, etc that make them better. It’s not. They’re not factoring all of the things that make someone a real winner.
I also hear people worrying that when their competition gets better, it’s bad for them. However, have you thought about how this effects your clients? Have you thought about how very poor competition impacts your business? The true winners are aware of how good competition is good for their industry.
It’s just like sports – when someone is excitable, it changes the sport. When talent rises up, it makes more people want to get involved and everyone benefits. When people suck in the sport, people stop watching because it isn’t good. Everything is connected.
Here’s what I think you should be thinking when it comes to your competition.
– Be inspired by them
– Understand how you’re different, don’t copy them because you’re not being authentic. You wont be satisfied when you don’t do things the way that is original to you and your own breakthroughs in business and in life.
– When the talent goes up and you worry, its exposing the fact that you don’t believe in yourself. If you don’t believe in yourself, then you’re really screwed. Don’t let that stuff cause you to take your eye off the ball, not for a second. True winners know that staying in their own zone is what makes them a winner!
